What’s your typical evening routine after a stressful day at work? Let me guess, make up off, PJ’s on and a wee cuppa in hand while you watch Gail Platts dramas on the cobbles?
Me too, usually…
I was in need of girlie gossip and a giggle and that’s exactly what I got when I hit the town for an evening of cocktail tasting in Glasgow City Centre.
We started in a place called Tiki Bar, which is situated at 214 Bath Street.

The beach shack decor and the smell of holidays as I entered the small bar made me feel instantly relaxed and the worries from work were soon forgotten, replaced by excitement for the night ahead.

We couldn’t decide which cocktails to choose so instead we picked at random and shared them between us, not the best idea to mix so many spirits I later discovered. (Don’t worry girls, to preserve our dignity I have not included any selfies from the train journey home, lol!)
Rum Bongo – which was my favourite, tasted of tropical fruit and made me think of relaxing on a hot beach in the summer.

I loved that all the drinks are served in cute cups! This one was called Coconut Grenade.
Next we took a short walk to 142 West Regent Street, to try out Meat Bar. As you can imagine from the name, upon arrival we were greeted with the mouth watering smell of grilled burgers. Oh I was hungry instantly.
We decided to get some nibbles, after all mixing drinks on an empty stomach never ends well. The food was absolutely delicious. Who would have thought of topping your sweet potato fries with vanilla sugar?
We also had some BBQ wings and skinny onion rings…

As I looked around the room, I saw lots of couples having intimate dinner dates and I took a mental note to bring my boyfriend here sometime.
As I read the cocktail menu my eyes were drawn to one in particular, the Meatojito, I had to try it.
(yes that is bacon you can see on top!) Let me think, how can I describe it? Different… its definitely different. The cocktails in Meat Bar weren’t quite to my tasting but if you’re looking for a one off cocktail with a bit of a bite (literally), then the Carnivorous Cocktails are a perfect shout!
The New Orleans Sour…
The next place we ventured to is only a 2 or 3 minute walk from Central Station, located at 151 West George Street called Blue Dog.

As we made our way inside I was pleasantly surprised by the classy vibe. The little tea lights burning on the tables, the grand piano and the smartly dressed (and quite cute) waiters. “something fruity for me” I said scanning the options. “oh I want something strong” I heard one of the other girls say.
I choose Strawberry Fields which had a hint of mint in it and tasted really fresh. Exactly what I was looking for!

However when Kirsty wasn’t looking I helped myself to a taste of hers, and actually liked it better. This was called Madam Mayfair. You will definitely have got a few of your 5 a day after this fruity combo.

Us girls quickly agreed this was our favourite place of the night so far and would definitely go back.
One more for the road…
Bar Soba, which you’ll find at 11 Mitchell Lane.

I’m not a fan of strong tasting cocktails but when one of the girls opted for the one that actually has a warning written next to it on the menu ‘maximum 2 per person’ I had to see what the fuss was about. WOW! I’m glad I only had a sip.
It was called Jangshi Zombie and has various different rums added to the blend of fruits.

I choose a sweet treat to round off the evening before heading for the last train home. The Drumstick Caipriovska (they ran out of drumstick lollies so I got a maoam chew sweet instead) This drink is perfect for someone like me, as its not too strong, instead its sweet and easy to drink.

Strawberry Sail – described on the menu as ‘Slightly sweet and serious strawberry’
Feeling a little tipsy I reflected on the night and decided that spontaneous mid-week cocktail tasting sessions are so much fun!
Love Emma & Kirsty x
