Everyone loves a weekend break; wither its a busy city break, a lazy spa overnight or a romantic get away. It’s exciting packing your bag and making plans to go see nice places and eat good food… And I suppose get little bit tipsy.
A few weeks ago a group of us booked a luxury cottage for the weekend in a place called Arrochar, which is near Loch Lomond. The cottage itself looked over Loch Long.
The view from the balcony was amazing, and I suppose a little spooky too due to the wet foggy weather. Mark and I were lucky enough to have the only bedroom that looked over the loch.
I imagine it would be the perfect spot for breakfast in the summer looking over the loch or heading down to the beer garden for a fruit cider in the sun. (ok, ok, I know its November beer gardens in the sun are a looonnnngggg time away)
On the Saturday morning, despite a few fuzzy heads, we headed out for some lunch before going ‘a wee walk’ (I’ll explain the inverted commas in due course). The pub we went to was a short 15 to 20 minutes drive away along side the Bonnie Banks (I did try to get a few pics but the rain prevented any of them from turning out to be anything more than a blur).
The pub was old and didn’t look like much from the outside. As we walked in we were surrounded by loads of stuff animals; from birds to foxes to bears. I’m not a huge fan of stuffed animals but in the case I suppose it kinda worked.
The room to the left is where we had lunch. As we walked in we were greeted with the amazing smell of home cooked food. Like a proper Sunday dinner smell. The tables had old wine bottles with candle in them. I felt instantly relaxed and cosy.
After a few more beers for the boys (hair of the dog and all that jazz) its now time to work off the mac ‘n’ cheese I had for lunch.
We spotted a waterfall, high up in a mountain and decided we wanted a closer look. We were told it would only take us 20 minutes to climb up… Liiieeeesssss!!!! An hour later and a few soggy trainers after, we finally made it to the waterfalls (inverted commas explained in pic below)
It was cold, it was wet, I wasn’t dressed for the occasion, my footwear was not appropriate, I am not physically fit… but you know what? I really quite enjoyed it and the view was pretty good too.
It was so muddy and since none of us had on proper walking shoes we were slipping and sliding and very quickly had soaking wet feet… Not to mention a few wet butts too *cry laugh emoji*
I’m proud to say I managed to stay on my feet the full time. No accidents and no muddy bum… however I can’t speak for everyone (hahaha) I’m one of those people who takes great pleasure in laughing at other peoples mis-fortunes (obviously not serious mis-fortunes, I’m not that mean). I LOVED it every single time someone slipped and fell; I wish I had it on camera!
It’s even more satisfying when the ‘smart arse’ of the group hits the ground!!! *devil emoji*
After the walk we headed back for a hot shower and had just enough time to squeeze in an afternoon nap before dinner.
Well I’m home now and its back to reality… work clothes looked out for an 8am shift tomorrow, PJ’s on and tea in hand.
I’m already thinking about my next weekend away. Hmmm let me think… girls weekend and MUST include a spa, up for it Kirsty??
Until next time…
Love Emma xx
