Lemme break down some recent Glasgow pizza gospel;
First there was Bier Halle *swoons*, then there was Paesano *praise hands emoji*, then Pizza Punks tried (and failed) to take the Pizza crown of Glasgow. All was well in the world (from a pizza perspective anyway).
Recently there were rumblings of a new Pizza Pioneer opening on Renfield Street. Now this is all fine and well, it’s Glasgow- we got room for everyone, but when I heard 3 people confirming that it was better than Paesano, I was stopped in my tracks (Yes really).
Those are some serious allegations and no one comes after my pizza Bae (read my Paesano blog here baby). Naturally, ya girl (and self proclaimed Pizza Queen of Glasgow) had to investigate this young pretender.
Come with me honey, as bittersweet as this feels to me- things about to get real sexy up in here…
Everybody meet Mozza. Mozza meet everybody. Now that the introductions are done, let’s get down to some serious business.
Newly opened on Renfield Street (a literal 3 minute walk from my work- yiiiiis), Mozza is a babe.
You walk in and it has a super laid back, seriously cool vibe with an open plan setting and the staff are cute too- ticks ALL da boxes.
Once my pizza date had arrived we ordered some drinks and decided what to feast on. They have a lovely selection of wine, beers and cocktails all really well priced.
I had the Pink Lemonade and LOOK how cute-
Limoncello, Ketel One citroen vodka, cranberry, sugar, lime and topped with a splash of lemonade this wee beaut exploded in my face with sheer sweet gloriousness. I loved it. Fresh, sweet, fruity and a freakin delight.
Marc opted for wine- primitivo to be precise and loved it. I’m not a big red wine fan, but he is- so take his word for it : )
Now let’s get down to business baby…
Mozza prides itself on it’s adherance to the authentic Neapolitan way-serving up a true taste of Naples. Sourdough base proved for 48 hours and fired up at over 400 degrees these babies are to DIE for! Now you may be thinking- calm down Kirsty, pizza is pizza…but that dear friend is where you would be wrong.
Protected by strict certification (I got that from the menu) true Neapolitan Pizza can only be deemed if the quality of the core ingredients is JUST right. So here you have 13 succulent pizza’s to choose from, all sounding as beasting as the next.
I didn’t wanna go too bold with my selection. When I know I’m in for a real pizza treat I tend to go pretty basic with my order and really let the ingredients speak for themselves without being too overwhelmed with meats and flavours (I know, it’s pathetic how much thought goes into my pizza selection but whatever). I went for Number 3- yellow tomatoes, smoked mozzarella, pink pepper, basil and olive oil. FML it was good.

When this wee plate of cheesy sunshine was placed before me I knew I was already half in love. It was divine. A lil sprinkle of black pepper and I tore into this like a Tasmanian devil. The base is thin (which is my fave) but the crust is thick with the perfect balance of crisp and chew (which is also my fave)- its perfect for folding your slice in half NY style so you don’t lose even a tiny morsel of topping. Though no particularly overwhelming toppings, this pizza was just perfection. All of the flavours, sweet and savoury, dancing around in my mouth like a perfect pizza polka. Absolutely spell- binding.
Marc went for a Number 5- tomato sauce, spicy ‘nduja, mozzarella, ventricina salami, ricotta cheese, black pepper, basil and olive oil.
Scroll back up and LOOK AT IT again- its like molten lava, mesmerising- all the colours melting into eachother- a canvas of flavour!
Of course he gave me a slice to try and it was delicious. The salami was strong but not over powering, the nduja again flavoursome but not too rich. The thickness of the crust offers a really nice balance to the seriously tasty base. Again- perfection.
I really loved the vibe in Mozza, even when we were done eating we sat for another drink and didn’t feel rushed to leave. I think the canteen style seating in Paesano kinda makes you feel that as soon as your finished you gotta get out.
We’ve both been to Paesano a few times before and agreed that it was our favourite pizza place- but as soon as we got to Mozza we realised this place was no joke. After some serious deliberation and care, we both decided that if your looking for Glasgow’s greatest and most tastiest pizza- friends, we’ll see ya in Mozza.
Visit them on Facebook for some more menus, pics and all the Mozza updates you could ever need!
So there you have it sugar, my heart has been stolen.
Buon Appetito baby,
KBang xxx
